【Fear of Light】 Drowning Pool

A few years ago, I had a near-drowning experience. Back then, I considered myself a water dragon, swimming 2000 meters in the pool every day without taking breaks. By the way, the pool had a diving platform, so it was pretty deep, around 5 meters.

I remember that day the swimming lanes were mostly empty. After swimming for about forty minutes, I felt like I had had enough. Suddenly, I got my left leg cramped, and it caught me completely off guard. I accidentally swallowed a few mouthfuls of water. Since I was in the middle of the pool at the time, I thought I could still make it to the edge. So, I desperately used my right leg to move forward. But to my surprise, a few seconds later, my right leg cramped up too! I struggled at the surface for a few seconds, just trying to get my mouth above water to breathe. I couldn't even shout for help; I was completely preoccupied. Eventually, both of my legs locked up, and I sank to the bottom.

At first I was panic. I looked up and saw someone swimming above me, so I waved my arms desperately. But after waving for what felt like ages, nobody paid any attention to me! (Maybe everyone just thought there was some weird person diving at the bottom of the pool?) I realized that no one was coming to my rescue, so I had a sudden idea. I decided to stretch my muscles at the bottom of the pool until I ran out of breath, then I kicked my legs up to the surface to get some air. After that, I sank back down, stretched my muscles again, and repeated this process several times. In the end, I had to cling to the pool divider to crawl back to the edge, saving my own life.

All I could say after all this is the ability to breathe is a blessing... Also, does someone know how to use sign language to signal for help in the water with strangers = =?
